Strong evidence has shown that peer-mentored students, who received social and academic support, encouragement, and guidance with college choices, notably had more degree completions and professional career achievements, when compared to non-mentored students. CREAR Futuros builds upon these efforts and is offering you an exclusive opportunity to position yourself on a path to success starting right now!
As part of this unique national project, 160 NYC CUNY freshmen will be paired with upper class peer-mentors who have faced some of the same obstacles and challenges that you may encounter during your college career. These knowledgeable and highly trained peer-mentors will introduce you to campus resources (financial aid, course selection, tutoring), provide tips on how to reduce stress and manage time wisely, and offer expert insight on how to make the most out of your time at CUNY. CREAR Futuros, moreover, will grant all participants internships and professional development opportunities, free one-on-one tutoring, and access to a range of free social support services.
This program is open to all incoming freshman, of all races and ethnicities, attending City College of New York, John Jay College, Lehman College and Hostos Community College. Applicants should have an interest in improving the success rates for Latinos in higher education and will be selected on a first come, first serve basis.
